Gratitude

We got a huge present a couple of weeks ago in the form of a vacation thanks to the stellar people who are helping to form the back bone of Heyday Farm. David (see picture, middle) has been working tirelessly since day one on animal care, egg collecting and washing, fencing, soil preparation, planting, construction and more. Additional support from Jonnie, Larry (see picture, right), Evan, Miles and Lilly  helps with the daily round of animal needs of the farm.

We actually went to Disneyland, if you can believe it and were able to fly out (with some delay) on the first day of snow. At Disneyland, Craig did frequently check the weather back home and did some nail biting, but we heard not a peep as all of these wonderful people did their duties and then some to keep the farm running and animals healthy and fed and water flowing.

In addition, as time gets filled up with many other tasks and planning needs, Scott (see picture, left) is helping us with organic certification. All along, Jimmy and Charlie have  been building anything and everything including the new winter pig enclosures in the barn. Jimmy and Charlie  even provided shuttle services for our trip to and from the ferry so we didn’t have to park our car, and simply caught the light rail on the other side.

We are wholeheartedly in for the commitment that farming entails, but it sure is wonderful to now have a precedence of reliable help that allows us to recharge as a family.

Now that we’re back, you can come see us (and all those people helping) when we’re selling eggs and oven ready chickens at the farm this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3 and 4 from 3 to 6 p.m.

And if you want a regular supply of eggs or you want to sign up for a chicken subscription, visit our online store where both are available.

  1. Congrats on the vacation! Family time is so important. I just wish I lived on Bainbridge. This summer I’ll get over to see you and maybe buy a chicken!

  2. We are interested in pork. Are you selling and when? We usually split a whole pig with friends. Possible? We live in Seattle

    • We will be selling pork soon! I’ve added you to our email list and we’ll send a note out and update our store when pork is available.
